Ok I’m halfway through my day and can I be honest? I am freaking exhausted. In spite of my post on the importance of sleep, I guess my newborn didn’t get the message. Hey kid!? Mom needs a solid 8 hours, so this waking up at 3 am and crying until 6am thing is not going to work. Maybe we can work out some kind of hostage negotiations??
I feel like I am just floating around without a head. A mom zombie– a Mombie. Who ordered the lobotomy?
So here I am on the treadmill, at the gym finally getting around to writing the blog post that I have been putting off because… Well, because this lack of sleep has totally zapped my creativity and desire to do anything except for vegging out on the couch with my good old friends: the Real Housewives of the OC.
So what is my point? Most of the time I feel great: I eat right, I sleep 8ish hours a night, I exercise. So this bad feeling is abnormal to me. I guess you could call me lucky. I know a lot of people who go through life exhausted, malnourished and under-exercised. This crappy feeling is probably their norm. (No offense if that’s you, seriously).
I have been really pushing toward some major goals but this exhaustion has slowed me down to a crawl. We go through life sometimes ignoring our body, but the truth is we need it more than it needs us. If you are ignoring your body, you are starving yourself of your true potential.
That is why I am a huge believer in the power of health and fitness to transform lives. Exercising has been called a “keystone habit,” which means that just by exercising other good habits start to fall into place: eating healthier, smoking less, being more productive at work. And it makes total sense: when you start feeling better you have more energy to dedicate toward other things.
Exercise, eating nutritious foods, getting enough sleep and reducing stress often fall to the bottom of the list of things to do because we “don’t have enough time or energy.” But what if making the time to do those things actually gave you MORE time and energy?
Just some food for thought to put things in perspective….
